Well, we have just completed our first month of Football and Netball for 2024 and has been a busy one.

We started the season down at Inverloch for our Easter clash. It was an absolute arm wrestle of a game for the full 4 quarters of football for our seniors and not much different for our Reserves. We didn’t get a win in either game but we gave it real crack and got close. Let's hope it swings the other way when we play again in the back end of the season.

We then hosted Tooradin at home for our first home game for the season and our first night match for a few years. We also had our 2014 Grand Final Reunion and it was great to see the boys down at the club. We hosted our Sponsors & Life Members Day with a late lunch and 2 exciting games of football. It was a hugely successful day, on and off the ground. Thanks to our amazing volunteers for making sure the day ran smoothly.

In Netball, there was some mixed results but the U13’s had a win and A Grade had a big win over Tooradin and the girls were absolutely pumped. Phoebe Nolan from our U17’s also celebrated 100 Games, congratulations Phoebe!

It was a great atmosphere and huge crowds for our first home game for 2024

We then ventured down to Phillip Island on their new surface, where we commemorated the ANZAC spirit. The last couple of times the Reserves met, there wasn’t much in it and this time it went our way by 7 points.

It was an absolute thriller for our Seniors game, another tough game that had us on the edge of our seats right to the end, where it ended in draw. Another mix of results for Netball , but it was great to see our A Grade come away with another win.

We round out the month, taking on Bunyip at home. It was our turn to host the ANZAC Round with all teams lining up for an ANZAC commemoration at the end of the Reserves game. A very special moment. Both the Reserves and Seniors game was a one-sided affair, but the ANZAC spirit was on display from both clubs, showing perseverance, courage and above all camaraderie.

It was hugely successful day for Netball as well, winning 8 from 8. The first time in a long time we have achieved 8 wins. This is a really good sign of things for a promising season. A couple of close games but some really good wins for the girls. The U13’s continued their strong start to the season now sit on top of the ladder.

The Spirt of ANZAC medals was awarded to:

  • Reserves Jakes Boccari (Cora Lynn) & Matt O’Halloran (Bunyip)

  • Seniors: Nathan Gardiner (Cora Lynn) & Tim Godfrey (Bunyip)

  • A Grade: Gemma Stacey (CL)

  • B Grade: Kaisha Stacey (Bunyip)

  • C Grade: Miley Schade (CL)

ROUND 3 Match Review

SENIORS

We hosted the Bunyip Football Club on Anzac Round in terrific conditions at the dome!

The boys displayed an exciting yet discipline game of football which was very pleasing as we look to continue to work on all aspects of our game. It was great to see two exciting prospects in Owen Hartley and Jacob Percy make their senior football debuts. Both boys showed throughout the day why they both will make a huge impact on our club in the years to come.

Our better players for the day were Heath Briggs, Matty Ryan, Nathan Villella, Luke Hartley and Gus Da Costa.

DEVELOPMENT

On a glorious autumn day we welcomed Bunyip to Cora Lynn. In the  first quarter we set the scene with nine goals our midfield were on top and sending the ball forward with Josh Wilson and Luke Forward taking advantage. We continued our midfield dominance with Chris Inverno and Manny in the ruck. Everyone played their roles throughout the day in another great win.

Bunyip played the game in great spirit with a first gamer, Ted Godefrey, winning the development Anzac Medal for Bunyip, and congratulations to Jake Boccari on his Anzac Medal for Cora Lynn
